Welcome to Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering

Ms. Duffer and Family

WOW! It has been an amazing 6 year journey here at Montgomery High School, and I am just as excited for year 7.

Amazing things have been happening all over MISD and our campus, but especially here in the PLTW classes. In May 2018 we graduated our founding class of students who started PLTW their freshman year and maintained an engineering pathway each year culminating with the completion of the Engineering Design and Development capstone course. I joined MHS in the second year of the PLTW program, and since then we have added 7 new PLTW courses and created a competitive Robotics Team. Our Robotics teams have qualified for state all 5 years we have been in competition, and have competed at the VEX Worlds Competition twice.

Working at Montgomery High School has invigorated my teaching. Thanks to a supportive campus administration team I am able to focus on my students, and I am able to create learning opportunities for my students that are outside the box and relevant to the real world. Example: Bear Force 1 & The Purple Bearon! Our Aerospace Engineering students have built two FLYABLE airplanes along with volunteer mentors, myself, and Eagle's Nest Projects. We are currently building airplane #3 which should be completed this school year!  This wouldn't have been possible without the support and belief from our entire MISD administration that trusts it's teachers, and most importantly, believes in our students.

One thing you will learn about me is that I absolutely love my job and my students! When I started college I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I received my undergraduate degree in Education from The University of North Texas. Then in 2015 I received my Master's degree from The University of Texas in Arlington.

When I'm not teaching, at robotics competitions, coordinating Bear Force 1 and Purple Bearon events, or attending MHS functions I enjoy spending time with my husband Adam and my two wonderful step daughters. I'm very lucky that they support my passion for my job/students, and you can often find them at robotics competitions and various school events with me.

My motto in life is "Enjoy the Journey," and I am looking forward to continuing my journey as a Bear!
